About a year ago, I penned online at Zeek Magazine a vicious attack on the Tikvah Fund and the Jewish Review of Books, which is funded by the Fund. In it, I attempted to expose the Tikvah Fund as a neoconservative organization that attempts to press conservative cultural content into the liberal American Jewish bloodstream, and that they do so by stealth, hiding ideological hash behind academic formats and content. The piece received a lot of negative attention from some colleagues, mostly from those who have participated, for pay, at Tikvah Fund centers and who argue that the program is on the up and up. But at last year’s conference of the Association of Jewish Studies (2011), I received almost only positive feedback from colleagues, who are concerned about the kinds of distortions introduced into the academic study of Judaism by the Tikvah Fund and its many, subsidized platforms…

Learning Math Stef’s Way

Tis’ final week, which means….studying….. WITH DISTRACTIONS.

Tomorrow I take my Pre-Calculus midterm and we are supposed to have the unit circle super memorized. Just thinking about it gave me a headache, I never really understood the unit circle and well let’s just say learning it’s wise ways was never a priority to me. So since my life is on the line here I tried to find ways to remember it, because learning by tricks is better than actually learning with like math and formulas. Anyway I made drawings on the way I should memorize things and it really worked for me.

Now I can actually draw a complete unit circle without looking at anything.

Proud of myself, but….. this is not all that there is to the test………..

I want to cry.

So, some of the people involved in that band started a studio called New Alliance Audio.  After several years the Linndrum was packed up in it’s road case and put into storage.

And it sat there for almost 15 years.  Those years took a toll too.  The batteries leaked, the capacitors went bad, and the foam from the road case became a rubbery dust that permeated everything!

When we pulled it out of storage i decided to send it to Bruce at FORAT for a…

2012 Person of the Year: Barack Obama, the President

Person of the Year

Twenty-seven years after driving from New York City to Chicago in a $2,000 Honda Civic for a job that probably wouldn’t amount to much, Barack Obama, in better shape but with grayer hair, stood in the presidential suite on the top floor of the Fairmont Millennium Park hotel as flat screens announced his re-election as President of the United States. The networks called Ohio earlier than predicted, so his aides had to hightail it down the hall to join his family and friends. They encountered a room of high fives and fist pumps, hugs and relief.

The final days of any campaign can alter the psyches of even the most experienced political pros. At some point, there is nothing to do but wait. Members of Obama’s team responded in the only rational way available to them — by acting irrationally. They turned neckties into magic charms and facial hair into a talisman and…
